Problem

A packaging and dispensing manufacturer needed to verify cap application torque on every part. Offline spot checks with handheld testers caught drift only after bad caps had already left the line. Adding a dedicated torque transducer meant more hardware, cost, and another device to calibrate.

02

Approach

We measured torque directly from the capping servo, converting motor current to torque using the drive's torque constant (Kt). A documented Kt calibration procedure tied readings to a reference standard so results stayed verifiable. Pass/fail limits were then built into the capping cycle itself.

03

Outcome

Every cap is now torque-verified in line, with no separate sensor to buy or maintain.
